All about Babies Names
Choosing our babies names feels like such an awesome responsibility, doesn’t it? Do you choose a popular baby name or unique babies names?
You should begin by searching on the Internet and looking though some babies names books and writing down any babies names that interest you. Perhaps you could take some time to reflect on what your name means to you. Have you always liked your name? Does your spouse his/her name? Do you feel that your name is too different, or too plain?
It’s OK if you don’t know the meanings of babies names – you can look that up too. You may feel you want a popular baby name, or want to avoid that all together and go for a unique baby name. My husband and I liked the name Hannah, but thought it was too common, so we named our daughter “Hana”, which means “flower” in Japanese. Since we had lived in Japan for three years, giving our daughter a Japanese name seemed like a natural fit to us.
Initials for Babies Names
Just remember to figure out what your baby’s initials will be. If you have made a list of babies names that you like, write down all the initials beside each name. My mom tells a story about her friend whose last name was Coulthard and when she was pregnant in the early 1960′s, she made a list of all the babies names she liked. One of them was Nathan Kingsley Coulthard. Then she realized that it could be shortened to Nat King Cole!
Email addresses for Babies Names
My husband came up with the idea to figure out what your babies email address would be based on the babies names you chose. (This is something our parents certainly never had to think about!) For example, if your last name is Art and you are thinking of naming your son Frank, well… his email address could end up being Fart@something.com one day! LOL (Pardon my French…)
I remember writing out a list of babies names when I was a teenager and I carried it in my wallet for years. Funny that I didn’t use any of those babies names for any of my kids after all. I have to admit that during my first two pregnancies, I could not think of any boy babies names at all. I was relieved when I gave birth to girls the first two times.
So when I was pregnant with my third baby, and I had amniocentesis (I was an advanced age – ahem!) so I knew we were having a baby boy. I simply could not think of any name I liked. I read book after book, researched online for hours and hours and still had no boy babies names that I liked. Finally I thought, “Hmmm… Trey means “the third” is that too obvious?” But luckily James liked that name too and so we named our third child Trey. And it really suits him!
