Hiccups and newborn babies – for something so minor, it sure can be upsetting. Most newborn babies hiccup from time to time.

<img class="alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-48" title="newborn baby" src="http://pregnancy-leads-to-new-babies.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/baby19-150x150.jpg" alt="hiccups and newborn"width="150" height="150" />All three of my babies hiccupped a lot while I was pregnant (I could feel it inside me) so I wasn’t surprised when they came out hicupping!

Come to think of it, Hana is ten years old now, and she hardly hiccups at all (that’s to make you feel better

Hiccups and Newborn babies go hand in hand

Believe me, hiccups usually bothers the parents more than the baby – babies don’t seem to notice it at all, unless it is interfering with feeding.

If hiccups occur during a feeding, your newborn may find it upsetting, or she may not be bothered at all. If she seems fussy, try changing her position and try to get her to burp or relax. You may even try stopping the feeding and starting again later.

If your baby gets hiccups often, try to feed her when she’s calm and before she’s extremely hungry. This will reduce the likelihood of hiccups during the feeding. And remember, this too shall pass.

Babies – Why Do Babies Cry

<img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-94" title="why do babies cry" src="http://pregnancy-leads-to-new-babies.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/baby-cry3.jpg" alt="babies cry"width="120" height="120" />As soon as babies cry, the natural instinct of the parent is to find a solution as quickly as possible so that he or she can calm down and return to that happy go lucky gurgling little bundle of joy that they have come to adore.

There are several reasons why babies cry and one of the hardest things to do is to figure out what that reason is in order to fix the problem. There have been many books written on the subject of decoding a babies cry so that you know instinctively what he or she needs.

Here is a list of some of the possible reasons why babies cry and what can be done in order to remedy the issue.

Babies Cry if they’re sick

Sometimes babies cry if they’re sick, but this is usually the least common reason, so please don;t worry. The quickest way to find out if your child is sick is to check his or her temperature. If it is unusually high, then this could be the cause for the discomfort. If your child is throwing up you will want to get in touch with your doctor or the emergencies services, whichever you deem the most appropriate.

Babies Cry if They’re Hungry

Babies cry when they’re hungry, that’s for sure. Although you may have set up a particular feeding schedule and it is not time for another feed, this could be the reasons for the tears. Babies are unpredicatble so even though you recently fed her, she might be hugnry again already. This is especially true when babies are going through a growth spurt. The simple solution is to try feeding your baby and see if this will stop the crying.

Babies Cry When They Need Sleep

This is honestly the most annoying thing to me, that babies cry when they’re tired. Sometimes they bowl uncontrollably! Why can’t she they calmly go to sleep??? When a baby is tired, he or she will often start to cry. And when they are OVERtired, look out! Babies cry when they’re overtired because they are very uncomfortable and do not know how to get themselves in the right frame of mind so that they can drift off to sleep. There are plenty of things that a parent can do to help your baby fall to sleep. You can swaddle your baby tightly, then hold your baby in your arms and walk around the room, rocking the baby in your arms… or put her in her stroller or baby swing and gently swing her back and forth. This gentle movement will help to calm her down and help her fall asleep.

Babies Cry When They Need To Be Changed

Babies cry to let you know they have a dirty diaper. Sometimes it feels like the diaper is practically dry but your baby will know and will tell you about it by crying. Some babies are more sensitive to this than others. I tried to use cloth diapers when Hana was born, but I failed miserably because Hana was so sensitive and she had to be changed every five minutes! Once you’ve changed her diaper, your baby should be all smiles and laughter.

Baby Needs Human Contact

Sometimes babies cry simply because he or she is craving some human contact. It is quite natural for a little one to want to be held closely. It is amazing how quickly tears will subside as soon as you pick up a crying baby. Some eye contact, a hug and a few kisses and your little one will have a big beaming smile on his or her face. On the other hand, sometimes they cry if they want to be left alone! I remember one time when Hana was crying uncontrollably and I was just at my wits end. I tried everything and she was still crying. Finally, I thought, “I have to put her down and walk away before I start crying too,” so I did. Two seconds later, she was sound asleep!

These are just some of the reasons why babies cry

Babies cry because this is the only way of communicating with us. Always remember that they are not trying to irritate us with their crying. Act like a detective and search for clues as the why she’s crying. Go through the above steps and you’ll figure it out soon enough. In the meantime, remember that new born babies cry, sleep, eat and pee & poop, and that’s about it until they get older!
