When it takes you a really long time to get pregnant, you have a lot of time to think about how you’ll make your pregnancy announcement. You fantasize about how everyone will react and imagine everyone screaming and jumping up and down.

Making your pregnancy announcement to your friends and family is a blast!

When we first discovered we were pregnant with Hana, we went over to James’ parents’ house and instead of actually making a pregnancy announcement, we said we had a gift for them, but it wasn’t ready yet, and they had to wait about 7 1/2 months for it.

I’ll never forget making our pregnancy announcement to them. We were all standing in the kitchen: James and I, his two sisters and his dad and step-mom. One of his sisters figured it out right away because she looked slyly at me and said, “Wait a second… What are you drinking?” and I said, “Umm… just water.” She started smiling and got a bit teary-eyed. Slowly, one by one, everyone figured out what their present was.

A Unique Pregnancy Announcement

We kept hinting to James’ dad, saying, “We have a very special present for you. But it’s not finished yet. It’s being built, sort of. It’ll be ready soon… as soon as it’s ready we can show it to you…” Hint, hint.

Well! James’ dad was totally confused. He said, very excitedly, “Is it a puppy?!!” We started laughing our heads off.

James’ sister Carolyn got it right away and said, “Wait a second… Are you drinking any wine tonight?” And I said, “No, I can’t actually.”

James’ dad still didn’t get it! We said, it will be ready on about August 16th, give or take two weeks. Everyone started cluing in… except poor dad.

When we finally told him, he was so estatic! We were all jumping around the kitchen screaming.

Your pregnancy announcement can be as grand, or quiet, or personal as you like. Just make it yours, and make it great!
